Regular printing generally refers to white coating printing – where white coating ink covers the natural metal lines before the artwork is printed. With white coating printing, the colors of the artwork are preserved perfectly. Foil printing generally refers to metallic printing. Compared to white coating, metallic printing does not have the extra white coating ink covering. With metallic printing, the foil area effect appears metal texture, and if foil area matches glossy varnish, the foil area will be very aesthetically pleasing. However, without the white coating covering, the original metal color will be reflected through the printed design, making the overall artwork appear darker.
Gloss and matte varnish are the final step in printing process. Compared to gloss varnish, matte varnish requires an extra step that means gloss varnish is applied first, followed by matte. Gloss printing effect – reflects light in bright areas for an attractive effect. Matte printing effect – does not reflect light, and color saturation is stable at any brightness. Generally speaking, new brands use gloss varnish, while classic brands use matte varnish. Specific application depends on the printing artwork.
When the artwork needs to emphasizes a specific area, there are two options. First, use a glossy varnish matched a matte finish printing. This means using glossy varnish on the emphasized area, such as the logo, while printing matte varnish on the rest background. In this method, the glossy areas will appear exceptionally bright under different lighting conditions. For simpler artwork, a gold foil or metal foil printing style is recommended. This involves using gold foil or metal foil over glossy varnish on the emphasized area, such as the logo, while covering the rest background color with matte varnish. This will make the logo area stand out vividly. Second, use a holographic or laser laminated effect. This involves exposing the holographic effect with glossy varnish on the emphasized area, while using matte varnish on the rest. This method will make the emphasized area vibrant and eye-catching.
Soft Touch printing refers to rubber oil printing, which produces a texture that feels like soft leather. However, it has a matte finish, resulting in a natural matte effect, matte appearance for any artwork.
Laser laminating or holographic isn’t a printing method, but rather a type of tinplate. It’s made by laminating holographic film to tinplate to achieve the vibrant colors of laser laminating. Laser laminating tinplate can only display the laser-like background using a metallic printing method. Compared to regular tinplate, laser laminating tinplate combined with printing can give the overall artwork a more sophisticated appearance. Of course, this also depends on your artwork; if it doesn’t match, it will look unsuccessful.
Generally, the MOQ for custom artwork tins is around 5,000 pieces, but for regular customers, it can be reduced to 2,000 pieces.
